Woodmere History Empty Woodmere History

Post  Warrick1 Fri Sep 16, 2011 10:32 am

Very brief history of the grounds. The name comes from the trees and lake on the site - Woodmere - Wood for the trees and Mere meaning lake. The original grounds were mostly woods and farm land including grounds that today make up Wesselman Park, Roberts Stadium, National Guard Armory, and most of the residential areas to the south down to at least St. Mary's Hospital. These links have some pics and more info.

Will be a great site for the new course!

Very Cool.. history is awesome, I love it.

So where exactly is the course going to run, I see a couple of nice lakes that look like good places for my plastic. cheers

Neat,Thanks. That is a great, view of the old building in the first link. Feels a little morbid to say a asylum is a beautiful, building but the first link shows what a structure it was.

Woodmere History Woodme13
Another view of the original "Wood Mere" from an old post card I found in an antique store in Christiansburg, VA of all places. It was mailed from Evansville to a person in Watson, WV on April 17, 1911.
