Gateway Savage - Evolution HPP
Picked one of these up over the weekend from Dave McCormack at the BG Ams. It is 173g and has a pretty grippy plastic more similar to Star than Champ. I have thrown it a few times and gotten some pretty good results with it (parked 4 at Mesker yesterday with it)
The flight of this disc is great, if you are looking for a disc that has a controlled and gentle fade I would say this is a great choice. Really the best way to descibe is similar to a Wraith with a little more fade, or a less stable Destroyer that is a little slower.
The general physical characteristics of the disc resemble a Domey Destroyer on the top, but when viewed from the bottom it has a smaller wing and a small bead that gives it the stability. In the hand it was very comfortable, it didn't feel excessively beefy but at the same time it didn't feel like a fairway driver. For people with smaller hands it will fit very comfortably and won't leave you feeling like you are straining to get a a decent grip. As stated previously the plastic is fairly grippy like a Star plastic but it definitely has the durability of a Champ type plastic.
The flight characteristics of this disc were exactly what you would expect from Gateway. It didn't want to flip when thrown into the wind, but if you put it on too much anhyzer it wont come back. Thrown correctly it will produce two disctinct flight paths. The first is a nice predictable "S" shot that will have similar distance to a Wraith or Surge. The second flight path is more of what people with weaker arms and hyzer releasers will see. It will hold straight with little or no turn, once speead and rotations catch up to the disc it will begin to produce a nice large predictable fade. The fade won't resemble a fall off the table type fade, but more of what one would call a consistent hook.
I would best place it with players that dont have the arm for a Destroyer but want something that will be a solid wind disc that has speed. More advanced arms will probably prefer it for more control shots and predictability. It is a very useful and looked over disc; if you were to give it a try you would instantly see the value that it would add to your bag.
